The cost of weddings has ballooned to the price of a new car, and in some cases, a new home. It is crazy to consider how much people are willing to spend on one day, but if you think about how special the day is, it is easy to see how people can get wrapped up in the planning and end up with a bloated budget. You want to share the day with everybody in your life who is special and meaningful and that means choosing a space large enough to accommodate them and feeding each and every one of them. While you may want to extend the hospitality and serve the greatest gourmet meal anyone has ever tasted, it is going to cost you a fortune to do so. However, there are ways to have the wedding of your dreams without starting your new marriage deeply in debt from the day. The key is prioritizing and deciding what is worth the splurge and what needs to be scaled back. If you had your senior pictures taken at a great photography studio, see if that place is still in business and maybe they can offer you a great deal. Photographs are an important part of any wedding because you want to make sure you have memories of the occasion. You could cut the cost of these memories by choosing photographs only and foregoing a video tape of the wedding.
Another great way to save, if it is important that you have the ceremony and reception you have long dreamed of, is to reduce the guest list to your nearest and dearest. You may want to extend an invitation to everyone you have ever met, but the fact is, this adds tremendous cost to all aspects of the wedding. If you have a more intimate ceremony and party, it will free up a great deal of cost to put together what you have envisioned. You will be able to spend more on your dress, more on the ceremony site, and more on the individuals who are in attendance because you are not trying to spread your budget across hundreds of people. In some cases, you may even have a chunk of change left over for a great honeymoon. This will be the first week of your married life, so make it special and head to a secluded destination with your new spouse.
If the large guest list would break your heart to cut, you are going to have to make some choices. If you want tons of people in attendance at your wedding, you should make more simple choices for how everyone is going to celebrate. Consider holding the ceremony and reception at a less formal venue. Serve foods that are more casual in nature than traditional wedding fare. This is going to save you a bundle when you are feeding hundreds of hungry mouths. Also consider what beverage selections you can make to cut costs. If the important thing is being surrounded by droves of people, you can still celebrate in a cost effective way.
